CAMEO, SOFA MODULAR SYSTEM

The Novelty by Edi & Paolo Ciani

10.04.2016

A new sofa modular system for the Contract sector

Large, comfortable, minimalist, statement pieces. Daring shapes and colours in freely expressive compositions.
Cameo, designed by Edi and Paolo Ciani, is a sitting system for large lounges and waiting areas that is constantly evolving. The modules are also perfect for small spaces too.

The perfect geometric shapes carve out centrepiece seating which can be adapted to suit an infinite number of compositions. The trapezoid shape of the seating marks out two symmetrical seats, interrupted depthways by the backrest which adds a simple, fixed line to the design.
The same shapes can be found in the model flush to the wall with a single seat, which again has a strong personality.
Ash wood is used throughout the Cameo collection and, teamed with the upholstered seat, creates balance and a pure, precise line that frame the design of the base.
Cameo is highly flexible when it comes to creating compositions, and can be paired freely with different colours. This means that each individual shared space can be customised down to the finest detail.

The sofa is in the shape of an isosceles trapezoid and comes either with symmetrical seats or a seat just on one side.
The individual modules fit together perfectly to create a continuous sofa, or they can be alternated with expansive ash tables.

EDI E PAOLO CIANI Sharing the same passion for design, they worked briefly as independent professionals after completing their studies. In 1992, they partnered to found “Edi & Paolo Ciani Design”.
Since then, they have worked on product and interior design, establishing themselves in the contemporary scene with furniture collections for the residential, office, contract and outdoors sectors. They have designed numerous successful products and received international recognition such as the Young & Design, Catas, Top Ten, Wood Casual Furniture, Interior Innovation and Red Dot Design awards.

EARL COLLECTION

The novelty by Daniel Rous/Fabrica

26.03.2016

For the 2016 Milan Furniture Fair, Piaval present Earl, a new collection of furniture designed by Daniel Rous, a young British designer based in Treviso at Fabrica, the Benetton Group’s communication research centre.

Earl is the fruit of the passion which Piaval and Daniel Rous share for manufacturing in wood and its intrinsic qualities. The collection calls upon a deep understanding for the importance of sustainability in manufacturing and its implication on the environment.

The collection is made entirely in solid Beech wood. It explores the material’s innovative potential; its simplicity masks the complex execution utilising advanced manufacturing techniques.

Characterised by its clean aesthetic, the collection is striking and beautifully detailed. It makes a bold statement. Balanced proportions, sweeping surfaces and an fastidious approach to detailing makes each piece recognisable as an integral part of the whole collection.
The choice to use FSC-certified wood and water based paints is a sign of sustainable awareness.

The collection - designed specifically with the contract and hospitality sector in mind - composed of an armchair, cafe chair, stool and bar stool, bench and a number of large and small tables for different purposes.

Daniel Rous
Born in Britain in 1990, Daniel Rous is a product designer from the UK, a 2013 graduate from Bath Spa University. Since graduating he has worked in various practices between London and his hometown of Oxford. In November 2014, Daniel joined Fabrica as a resident product designer. Since joining, he has worked with Fabrica on projects for Airbnb, Daikin, the Italian Makers Village and
EXPO Milano 2015 amongst others.

Fabrica
is a communication research centre. It is based in Treviso, Italy, and is an integral part of the Benetton Group. Established in 1994 from a vision of Luciano Benetton, Fabrica offers young people from around the world a one-year scholarship, accommodation and a round-trip ticket to Italy, enabling a highly diverse group of researchers. The range of disciplines is equally diverse, including design, visual communication, photography, interaction, video, music and journalism.
